The PID-controller is the foundation in almost every regulating circuit. By making a comparison between a system input to its desired output, a remaining error can be calculated and then used in the controller to correct the output for that error.
Depending on what process that is being regulated, and the responsiveness of the system, the PID-regulator have to be optimized by three parameters – Proportionality constant, Integral time constant and Derivate time constant. With these parameters, a regulator can change the system characteristics to become more accurate, stable and faster or slower.
